[http://www.flickr.com/photos/64555638@N00] and there's Merle Streep beside him!!! What a wonderful social commentary Carol, great shot and great material to mull over with a nice cup of tea and (non virtual) sticky bun! The two ladies with veils over their faces as a reminder that the hijab was not the only form of face covering in use. The gentleman with the top hat looking so discomfited by mixing with the hoi-polloi and the casual boater relaxing at the back, a great start to a Flickr week!

I'd say the woman at far left is only going as far as the Spanish Arch.

Perhaps Mrs. James Cunningham Bishop, the former Miss Abigail Hancock. Married in 1891, she divorced him in 1913. See query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9907E4D6123BE633A... It was clearly a very public divorce. But I'm not sure that could be the context for this picture.
