Wystan has noted that Bain's date on this negative is 9/17/13. This then is a photograph of the second day's qualifying play at The Country Club, Brookline of the 1913 U.S. Open Golf Championship. Wystan has already tagged this as US Open. See relevant report in the next day's New York Times here: query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=990DE4D7123FE633A... September and October 1913 were pretty heavy golf months in the United States, so the photograph which Wystan shows above from four days earlier may not be at Brookline.
