(so that MAY be the news connection for this photo).

The sign with "American" appears to be on the pier, not on the ship. It may be for American Line, which was a unit of International Mercantile Marine along with Red Star Line. Agree that the news photo was probably due to the chartering of Finland to transport the 1912 US Olympic Team.

She sailed primarily to ports in the United Kingdom, Belgium, and Italy. She also briefly sailed on New York to San Francisco, California, service.
