What you are saying is McDonald Furniture store, I remember as Neiforth Furniture Store. The parents of one of my high school classmates owned it. You might want to contact the Neiforth family for verification.

Thanks for the note. Dartmouth was blessed with more than one furniture store on Portland. The City Directory indicates that MacDonald Furniture was at 144-146 Portland until 1970. It sat vacant for a few years til 1972 when the PM&J Social Centre and Bingo Hall is listed. Nieforth Furniture was further down at 35-37 Portland - see a photo of it at: gencat.eloquent-systems.com/halifax-municipal-archives/pe... - or search for Nieforth in this Flickr Album.
