The British Secretary of State for the Colonies, the Rt. Hon. Iain Macleod, MP, addressing the Tanganyika Constitutional Conference, held in the Karimjee Hall, Dar es Salaam from 27 to 29 March 1961. On Mr Macleod's right hand is Mr W B L Monson, Under-Secretary of State at the Colonial Office, and on his right (ie on left in the picture) is Mr B E Rolfe, of the Colonial Office. On Mr Macleod's left is the conference Secretary-General, Mr A J Chant, of the Tanganyika Government.

Iain Macleod, MP, on the right, being introduced by the Governor of Tanganyika, H E Sir Richard Turnbull, KCMG, second from right, to a person unknown to me, presumably with his wife. Second from left is the Speaker of the Tanganyika Legislative Council, the Hon. A Y A Karimjee, OBE. On the extreme left is the Attorney-General, Mr J S R Cole, QC. The occasion is presumably the departure of Mr Macleod after the Constitutional Conference held in Dar es Salaam in March 1961.
