    The British Secretary of State for the Colonies, the Rt. Hon. Iain Mcleod, MP, leaving the session of the Constitutional Conference held in the Karimjee Hall, Dar es Salaam in March 1961. On Macleod's left hand side is the Chief Minister, "Mwalimu" Julius Nyerere. On Mr Macleod's right is the Governor of Tanganyika, Sir Richard Turnbull, KCMG. Behind the Governor are Mr W B L Monson, CMG, Assistant Under-Secretary of State in the Colonial Office, and the Deputy Governor of Tanganyika, Mr John Fletcher-Cooke, CMG. Behind Mr Macleod is Chief A S Fundikira, Minister for Lands, Surveys and Water. Behind Mr Nyerere is Sir Ernest Vasey, Minister of Finance. On Mr Macleod's right hand is Mr W B L Monson, Under-Secretary of State at the Colonial Office, and on his right (ie on left in the picture) is Mr B E Rolfe, of the Colonial Office. On Mr Macleod's left is the conference Secretary-General, Mr A J Chant, of the Tanganyika Government.
