The man ahead of Big Tim is Larry Mulligan who appears in the adjacent photo at link above, and the woman standing just behind Big Tim here appears to be in the other photo too.

Might be John Joseph Fitzgerald (1872-1952), lawyer, US Representative from NY (7th district) from 1903-1917? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_J._Fitzgerald bioguide.congress.gov/scripts/biodisplay.pl?index=F000165 The name and initials are pretty common, though. And this guy looks older than his forties.

pennylrichardsca - I had a look at the uncompressed image through at the Persistent URL. The ribbon reads: "MEMBER ANNUAL OUTING ((portrait in circular vignette )) TIMOTHY D. SULLIVAN ASSOCIATION [ ILLEGIBLE ] POINT " Timothy Danial Sullivan was a big wheel Tammany Hall politician who died in 1913. According to the NYT of December 24, 1913 , " It was announced also last night that the Timothy D. Sullican Association, which was recently incorporated, had as its objective the carrying out of the benevolent work of the late "Big Tim"." (ref. query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=980DE3DB173DE633A... ) However, there are references to the Timothy D Sullivan Association which far predate 1913, including this one from 1897 about an outing to College Point: query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9A0CE0DB1E39E433A... The portrait on the ribbon appears to be that of Big Tim Sullivan. Either him, or a very manly looking woman. Can't shed any light on who J. J. Fitzgerald is.

Any chance it might be this other Tim Sullivan? This looks to be Mott Street in front of old St. Patrick's.

This is the funeral of "Big" Tim Sullivan, on September 15, 1913. LOC -- "Bowery" should be capitalized.
