ponehpony They are indeed! They may have been from Belgium or Holland. This factory (and large scale sugar beet processing in Ireland) was set up with help from a Belgian firm, Lippens.

As a twelve year old girl, at the time, I was so happy she won. The hard-hearted grumpy old cynic that I am now would say "but what difference does it make - it's only a ceremonial role." At the time though she seemed so vibrant and optimistic compared to all the old grey men in grey suits. It was definitely the first time I took any interest in politics. So thanks NLI, for putting me in touch with my inner idealist if only for a moment. And thanks Mrs Robinson.
