In the summer of 1914, Boardman was working to be able to accept the offer from the Hamburg-American Line ot the liner Hamburg and to equip it as a hospital ship. Perhaps these photos were associated with that activity. See NYT of 8/29/1914 query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9406EEDE1638E633A... and 9/7/1914 query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=940DE5DC1638E633A...

Interesting Irish Times article with particular reference to Thomas Ashe's motorcycles - www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland/irish-news/thomas-ashe-s-... “I have invented (it is only in my mind so far but all details are complete) a lamp suitable for motor-bikes and motor cars, of which I’ll say no more until my return except that it is going to beat all the acetylene and electric lights so far used in efficiency, beauty and cheapness.”
