Sydney Harbour Bridge: The First Three Months' Work. By Kathleen M. Butler, Secretary to Mr. J. J. C. Bradfield, Chief Engineer, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Mail, Wednesday 31 October 1923:
Three compressors are now in operation. When the current is switched on the throb of the compressors, the quick, sharp chatter of the drill, the hiss of the escaping air indicate that construction has begun, and after a century of waiting Sydney and North Sydney are now being joined with steel and stone.
