I'm wondering if that building to the right of the Bar could be named after J. S. O'Donohue. He was a council member of the Fortitude Valley National Party as documented in the Darling Downs Gazette dated Sat 13 Oct 1888. I've seen mentions of him on electoral rolls being a house and estate agent in the city area but residing in Harcourt St, New Farm. I've also seen an employment offered advert in The Telegraph (Brisbane) dated Tue 30 May 1893 - page 5 WANTED Strong, Young Female General Servant. Apply J. S. O'Donohue Farmers' Exchange, Wickham and Warner Streets, Valley. Perhaps that is the name of your hotel in this picture. trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/174081442/19174384 I hope this might give some clues to the identity and location of both buildings in this photo. ... Clifton is a small rural township bisected by a railway line. It is a quiet and peaceful service centre for the surrounding rich and prosperous agricultural area where the economy is dominated by cattle, cereal crops, sunflowers and honey. The town has been used as a setting for a number of movies including, most famously, the 1983 TV miniseries, The Thornbirds, starring Richard Chamberlain and Rachel Ward.
