Mary Harriman Rumsey resp. Mrs. Charles Cary Rumsey (November 17, 1881 – December 18, 1934)
She was the founder of The Junior League for the Promotion of Settlement Movements, later known as the Junior League of the City of New York of the Association of Junior Leagues International Inc.. And she was the daughter of railroad magnate E.H. Harriman and sister to W. Averell Harriman, former New York State Governor and United States Diplomat.

Hughes is that of the women of New York, who have raised a large fund and are carrying on active work to assist his campaign. A leading member of the organization is Mrs. Charles Cary Rumsey, a daughter of the late E. H. Harriman. As Mary Harriman she was well-known socially in New York. Jane Addams was a social reformer, pacifist and women's rights activist who was most remembered as the founder of Hull House, one of the nation's first settlement houses which offered social, educational, and cultural opportunities to the large immigrant population of Chicago.

In 1931 she, together with Nicholas Murray Butler, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. She was the first American woman to receive a Nobel Prize. In 1940 this 10¢ stamp was issued in the Famous Americans Series – Scientists, to honor and commemorate her.   First Day ceremonies were held in Chicago on April 26, 1940. (Scott 878).

A 15-cent postal card in the Historic Preservation Series, marking the centennial of Hull House, was issued by the U.S. Postal Service in September, 1989. First Day ceremonies were held on September 16, 1989, at the Jane Addams Hull-House Museum—part of the College of Architecture and the Arts at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
