I suppose the Chinese admiral is returning a courtesy. Grant visited China in 1879 as a former President, and the Chinese took it as quite an honor; he was warmly received.

As if seeing Grant's tomb were not excitement enough, the Admiral also enjoyed a luncheon with Grant's son, General Frederick Dent Grant, at his HQ on Governor's Island.
