Captured Russian planes, I'm pretty sure they are Grigorovitch M-9s.

Seth Grigorovitch had no factory of his own. He worked for Shchetinin during WW 1 which means they were built at that time under Shchetin's name. Stig

Mike Hopwood Thanks for the info! Our records have been updated. The Australian War Memorial have similar pics of the Sea Furies on the deck of HMAS SYDNEY: bit.ly/Sk7dHt

Thanks for posting this. It confirms my memory of being aboard the Sydney with my family, during a visit to Hobart in the early 1950s, including being taken down the aircraft lift, and seeing the aircraft with their wings folded. The distinctive nose of the Sea Fury, with its air intake around the propeller hub, has stayed in my memory ever since, so it's good to have such an early memory validated.

Rob Allen Glad you like the image! It would have been amazing to see those planes in action, particularly taking off and landing on the carrier. There is a newspaper article that talks briefly about HMAS SYDNEY's visit to Hobart in early 1951 : bit.ly/SVcaUl
