    A similar pavilion to the above, now known as the Vernon Pavilion, still stands in the centre of Centennial Park near Randwick Pond. Known previously as Shelter Pavilion, it is the second of two similar structures designed by Walter Vernon, Government Architect, the first being constructed in The Royal Botanic Gardens in 1897 (the one above). Both structures were originally designed with hardwood shingle roofs, the shingles at Centennial Park being replaced in 1919 with terracotta shingles from the old Zoo, formerly in Moore Park.

    New-ish plantings on the site of the Garden Palace, so the photo is after 1882. And before 1893 when the enormous sheerlegs arrived on Garden Island - not seen here.
