The lighting effect is part-caused by the smoke generated by the many steam locomotives working at Central Station yards to the right middle out of frame.

great shot. a couple of sydneys previous tallest bldgs in that shot. to the left, the marcus clark tower of 1928 rising 223ft. also marcus clark store of 1905 reaching 140ft (in centre of pic)
