Katherine Drexel Dahlgren (b. 1894) was arrested for "speeding her automobile ninety miles an hour on the main street [of Stockbridge MA] and for operating the racer in a reckless manner," in July 1915. She married Richard Smith Emmet in January 1917; in July 1918, she and her sister Ulrica both gave birth to daughters in the same hour, at their mother's summer house in Ridgefield CT. query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=F10F15FD395D16738... query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=F40817FD345C10738... A picture in a news item announcing her engagement from September, 1916 shows her dancing on skates with her fiance and tells more of her racing exploits: "DARING SOCIETY AUTOMOBILIST TO WED DANCING PARTNER . New York, Sept 30. Mrs. Drexel Dahlgren has announced the en - gagement of her daughter . Miss Katherine Drexel Dahlgren, one of t h e most daring automobilists among the young women of society, to Richard Smith Emmet of this city. The announcement was made by Mrs Dahlgren at Fairfield, Conn., where she and her children passed t he sum - mer and will remain through the autumn . Miss Dahlgren startled summer residents of the Berkshire Hills about Lenox , Mass., a year ago by driving a 120 horsepower Mercer automobile at racing speed through the highways. She was fined $25 for this and was admonished for treating other local automobile regulations lightly. Later she offered to race George E. Turnure, Jr., on a motorcycle at Berkshire Fair Grounds. In society she has been active in Lenox and in this city, where she has appeared in various entertainments of the Junior League." fultonhistory.com/newspaper%2010/Kingston%20NY%20Daily%20...
