Reggie Vanderbilt; Plainfield; 1911 (LOC)

Reginald Claypoole Vanderbilt, (1880-1925) Gloria Vanderbilt's father. Reggie Vanderbilt, as he was popularly known, was the youngest son of Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt and wife Alice. He attended Yale, but didn't graduate. Reggie went through most all of the millions of his father's inheritance from high living, automobile collecting, horses, gambling and drinking. All well documented in diaries and the press, and even later in a television docu-drama on Little Gloria, and the famous custody case of 1934. Reggie was founder or president of many equestrian organizations. NYTimes reported he died of throat infection, although popularly reported to have died from complications from liver failure from alcohol consumption, and lifestyle.
