Highway Post Office Bus at Strasburg, Virginia

Lynchburg Virginia said:
I became fantasized by this picture of the first Mail by Highway bus picture found in the Smithsonian Institution photo stream. I had previously taken a picture of a Post Office Highway bus at the Roanoke Transportation Museum ( www.flickr.com/photos/lynchburgvirginia/2403169609/in/set... ) which added to my interest. My colorized interpretation is below.

She has a public garden named after her at the Smithsonian: www.gardens.si.edu/horticulture/gardens/Ripley/ripley1.html

You are correct, Eric. The Smithsonian gardeners are pretty incredible.

The person on the top right is Mr. P. B. Shekar, former collections specialist at the Bombay Natural History Society and a regular camp member of many expeditions by Dr. Ripley in India. Mr. Shekar would have many a splendid tale to speak of about the Ripley expeditions and someone from the Smithsonian should probably get in touch with him at the BNHS and record the stories.
