In New York in March, 1915 to play in the Women's National Indoor Tennis Tournament at the Seventh Regiment Armory (Park Avenue Armory), where this photo was probably taken. I was talking with Mrs. Wightman, whom I was to play, when I saw a falling star. There is nothing so lucky as wishing on a fall- ing star. I made my wish, "I want to win the National." And I did. Then, I have a Japanese brooch which I always wear when I play; it is so ugly that I cannot wear it at any other time. I am afraid to play without it.
