The most I can find out about any military service is "He served as a lieutenant in the rifle brigade" in his obituary in the Leinster Reporter on Saturday 13 August 1927.

There's a record at Kew with "Date of Service = 1872 " discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C13278717 and it appears to be downloadable. I'm on the case. (that's his son - this is Lord Moustache discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C13278260)

He married Mary Frances Farmer, daughter of Maj.-Gen. Reginald Onslow Farmer, on 22 August 1876.1He died on 5 August 1927 at age 76.
He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, EnglandG.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Rifle Brigade. He held the office of High Sheriff of County Tipperary in 1883. He succeeded as the 4th Baron Dunalley of Kilboy, co. Tipperary [I., 1800] on 10 September 1885. He held the office of Representative Peer [Ireland] in 1891.He gained the rank of Honorary Colonel in the 3rd Battalion, Royal Irish Regiment.He held the office of Lieutenant of County Tipperary in 1905.

From what I can tell, the Railway Hotel was on Barrack St. (now Kenyon St.) but the OSI is currently down, and I can't find a proper match on streetview. ETA: Spoke too soon Streetview

Sharon Corbet is correct I am sure (as usual) as we find the Hogan and the Ryan [edit - probably the wrong Ryans - see Sharon below for correction] shopkeeping families on Barrack Street in the 1911 census.

Michael Hogan in 1901Census as a Provision Merchant. Michael Ryan in 1901 Census though it's his mother who is a newsagent/publican while he's a Clerk.

Michael Hogan is listed in the 1911 census as 48 y/o and the 1901 census as 37 y/o. This puts his birth date around 1863, and we also no from the census that he was baptised R/C. While there's no guarantee it's the same Michael Hogan, there is a baptism record for a Michael Hogan (born to Michael Hogan [Snr] and Honora Darcy) in the local parish registers from May of 1863. (About two-thirds down on the righthand page among the other baptisms of 15 May 1863).
