[Missouri Pacific, Diesel Electric Freight Locomotive No. 389]

#389 is an Alco FA-2 freight diesel.....unusual to see it here on the point of a passenger train

Roger Bee Thank you for your interest! You are correct, it is a freight train, not a passenger train. We've made the appropriate changes and updated our records accordingly to reflect this information. Thank you again for your help in this matter, we always appreciate constructive input from our viewers!

This is NOT a freight train. The car behind the engines is an express car, the rest are baggage and coach cars. It was not that rare for a freight locomotive to pull a passenger train, especially at Laredo where MP's locomotives were under harsh weather conditions (extreme heat). In other words, whatever was available often had to be utilized.

Pretty cool photo! Is that an E-9?

worldsfair39 Thanks for your interest! Missouri Pacific Locomotive 41 was built by EMD in the early 1950s as an E8A - same time period that production of the E9s started.

Ah, I was close! ;) Love the long look of the E8s and E9s. ;-)
