Such a great photo of a location that was very rarely photographed. This is taken at Red River St between 3rd and 4th, looking East. The train is coming from the street running on 3rd St , over to the street running on 4th. The boxcar is on a small siding at 4th that extended a bit to the West. Between the boxcar and the passenger car, you can make out the white bridge railing over Waller Creek. Here's a Sanborn Map from 1935 that shows this area very well: texashistory.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metapth575186/m1/1/zoom/?...

The locomotive appears to be Union Terminal Co. 0-6-0 No. 7. If so, it survives today at the Museum of the American Railroad in the Dallas suburb of Frisco. The building at right with large sign on top was the Texas School Book Depository, from which Lee Harvey Oswald would assassinate U.S. President John F. Kennedy five years later.
