After his baseball career, which was hampered by constant leg injuries, Clymer became a car dealer. He died at age 50 from an automobile accident in St. Paul, MN. As far as I can tell, "Smith's Wharf" was on the western edge of Millers Point - we are looking south up Darling Harbour. The wharf was redeveloped shortly after, as in this 1903 photo of the reverse view, then known as Dalgety's Wharf - The amazing thing is that John Degotardi Jnr the photographer managed to make a routine photo of a barge clearing rubbish from a wharf into an interesting study in composition, perspectives, light and shapes. I don't understand about this photo.

Very old photo so no traffic, totally different sense of human scale without being full of cars and fast traffic dangerous roads.
