The 1912 Olympic games were held in Stockholm, Sweden, from late June to late July. This event in New York City on August 24 must have been a "welcome home" ceremony, for recognition of returning American athletes, and a celebration of their achievements.

Can someone please identify this building for me? Is it New York City Hall?

Looks like city hall to me. cf. www.flickr.com/photos/chrisinphilly5448/493026437/sizes/o/

parkermulligan - thanks. This building , or parts of it, feature as background to plenty of other scenes in the Bain collection. I makes sense that City Hall would feature on many offcial occasions or receptions.

Thanks for the good question, lifeasdaddy and thanks to parkermulligan for the identification of this building. As lifeasdaddy points out, City Hall appears in other Bain images such as this one: memory.loc.gov/service/pnp/ggbain/14100/14188v.jpg We will add the location to the source data and reload the description.
