Could be the former Margarita Armstrong, wife of Anthony J. Drexel (son of the Drexel who founded Drexel University). In December 1915, she was in the news in association with a judgment in London allowing her to recover money from her husband (who had taken up residence in Europe) under a separation deed. Photographer appears to be Marceau. See rcc.psc.sc.edu/index.php?action=showPhotographer&id=28 An interesting tidbit: "Because of Marceau's liberal administrations of champagne, his skill as a raconteur, and his sociable nature, he immediately became a fixture in the associational world of the profession in New York. In 1905 he and Pirie McDonald organized the Professional Photographers Society of New York State and served as its First Vice-President. With B. J. Falk and Pirie MacDonald, Marceau organized the Copyright League that lobbied Congress for stronger rights protections for photographers against the appropriation of their images by newspapers. It is he that recommended that a c with a circle around it and the photographer's name on the front of an image serve as the public claim that an image was copyright protected." There is a C in a circle near his name and another at lower right. Note: the photographs of Isabel B. Gardner and Mrs. Henry Pierson in this batch appear to have the same studio background.

Alternatively, she could be the former Marjorie Gould, who married the younger Anthony J. Drexel. The Tacoma times., February 22, 1915, Page 5 chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn88085187/1915-02-22/ed-... has a picture of Marjorie that could be in this hat. The photo is a Marceau photo, although not the same as this one. Pittsburgh Press news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1144&dat=19150223&... has the same piece with better image quality.

The wedding mentioned in the piece that features the "aureole" hat took place on January 6, 1915 and "Mrs. Anthony J. Drexel Jr., formerly Miss Marjorie Gould" was matron of honour. A report of the wedding at fultonhistory.com/Newspaper%2014/New%20York%20NY%20Herald... describes Mrs. Drexel's outfit: "of orchid colored satin. She carried a bouquet of mauve orchids, and over her shoulders and corsage fell two long strings of pearls." I think this is the former Miss Marjorie Gould.

Thank you for helping me find a picture of my grandmother. She died of cancer at the age of 49, 2 months before I was born. I have very few pictures of her and none of her father Clarence E Smith or his father and mother Roxie Maria and William Van Rensselaer Smith. I believe Clarence died in 1910 at the age of 44.

Typo in LOC title: s/b Parnell Evelyn Parnell (1888-1939) was an American soprano who had had her debut at the Boston Opera. She was known in Boston, her home city, as a church singer, and was a pupil of Madame Meysenheim of New York. After the Boston season she went abroad and performed in opera in Milan, Pavia, and Venice. She later toured Australia, Ireland and performed extensively in the US and Canada.
