In what was reported as a "Surprise to Society", Mrs. Hasell Borwick, younger daughter of Mr Lewis Cruger Hasell, and Mrs Mary Mason Hasell, became the bride of the Consul General of the Netherlands in New York, Adrian van de Sande-Bakhuyzen (1874-1951). After receiving their marriage license from City Hall, they immediately went to St. Mark's Church where they were married on February 18, 1915. The groom was 40 years old, the bride was 25. The bride was the former Mary Mason Hasell, and was a great great-grandaughter of the late Mrs. Mason Jones ("Lady Mary"). She made her début in 1907.  In 1908 she married George Borwick of London, heir of Sir Robert Borwick of Cumberland, England. They divorced in February, 1914, after some marital charges and counter-charges in London courts entertained London society-watchers. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] Mr. van de Sande-Bakhuyzen was the son of Dr. H. G. (Hendricus Gerardus) van de Sande-Bakhuyzen (1838-1923), a distinguished astronomer in the Netherlands. [6] Mr. Adrian van de Sande-Bakhuyzen served several posts as Consulate General, including Hong Kong, and New York. In February, 1916, Mrs.van de Sande-Bakhuyzen accompanied her husband to a new post as Consul General of the Netherlands at Singapore. [7] [8] [9] In July, 1919, Mrs. van de Sande-Bakhuyzen announced her divorce to Adrian and her marriage to R.A.D. Cort van der Linden in Edinburgh. Her husband is a son of Holland's Prime Minister, and is now studying music and composition in Holland. [10] At this point I refer to the bride as "Mrs. Mary Mason Hasell Borwick van de Sande-Bakhuyzen R.A.D. Cort van der Linden", however The New York Times refers to her as Mrs. Cort van der Linden. In October, 1921, Mrs. van der Linden returned to America to make her acting debut in a new play, "We Girls". She reportedly will be acting the part of "a society girl with cynical sayings". Her stage name is to be "Mary Hazel" (her maiden name was Mary Hasell). It was said she met with "much opposition" from her family in going on stage. WE GIRLS, a comedy in three acts, opened on Broadway, November 9, 1921, at the Forty-eighth Street Theatre. The New York Times review was good. I saw no mention of Mrs. van der Linden in the cast – by any name.  

Marjorie Augusta Vreeland (1892-1985), daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Harold Vreeland of New York, married George Edward Von Gal (1893-1961) of Danbury CT in June 1916. She was known in Boston, her home city, as a church singer, and was a pupil of Madame Meysenheim of New York. After the Boston season she went abroad and performed in opera in Milan, Pavia, and Venice. She later toured Australia, Ireland and performed extensively in the US and Canada.
