  The older residents would have still remembered it being called Bytown.

  That would have been just under the falls, right? Victoria Island perhaps? I'm an admin for a group called Chaudière Falls - Ottawa/Gatineau, and we'd love to have this added to the group!

  The photo was probably taken on Lebreton Flats, the centre of the lumbering industry in Ottawa and the major employer, even after the federal capital was established in Ottawa. It was called Bytown after Lt-Col John By who was in charge of the construction of the Rideau Canal from Ottawa to Kingston.

  Dorothy Lucke (1909-1986) was widowed in 1948. She went to work at a toy factory, and then for 25 years at the Clinton Garment Company. She remarried, Isaac Leslie. She had at least one child, a daughter Diane Johnson. Details from: rlhs.org/rlhsnews/htms/nl23-4.htm

  So this is a flipped image, negative in mirror? Look at top right with Film Type stock print.

  Thanks for your question about the image. The film info and notch code were reviewed and confirmed that the image is oriented correctly. During the process of checking, the TIFF image revealed another detail -- the brand name of the coveralls can be seen on the metal buckle. The embossed brand name is very small in the default display, but identifiable with magnification.
