    State Library of New South Wales RW - Thanks for the confirmation. I had a thought that it might just be the NE corner because of the shadows. Descriptions like "at the corner of X and Y street" can be in four locations, an annoying general fault of the English language usage, not particularly of this photo!

    It proves that the yards were very much up to date with equipment and skills at the time. A unique picture this and one I've not seen before. It reminds me of the photo series of Doxford Engines before closure. If you'd like I could link directly to here??

They were linked onto a ships enthusiasts website and took the world by storm when folk saw them. They show British engineering at its best.     That would have been just under the falls, right? Victoria Island perhaps? I'm an admin for a group called Chaudière Falls - Ottawa/Gatineau, and we'd love to have this added to the group!

    The photo was probably taken on Lebreton Flats, the centre of the lumbering industry in Ottawa and the major employer, even after the federal capital was established in Ottawa. It was called Bytown after Lt-Col John By who was in charge of the construction of the Rideau Canal from Ottawa to Kingston.
