Oscar Solomon Straus - Jewish statesman and diplomat to the Middle East, influential in the late 1880s to 1890s as US Minister in Turkey. Later U.S. Sec. of Commerce & Labor in 1900s under President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt - Served one year again in Turkey, as Ambassador, under President Taft. Wrote his autobiography in 1922, "Under Four Administrations: From Cleveland to Taft." His older brother, Isidor Straus and his wife were among the victims in the sinking of the Titanic in 1912.

The photo was taken at a reception for New York Bull Moose candidate for Governor Oscar Straus and Mrs. Straus, held at the Port Washington, Long Island, home of Bull Moose congressional candidate -- and former Congressman -- Bourke Cockran, on September 28, 1912 -- a kick-off event for the fall campaign of the Nassau County Bull Moose (Progressive) Party. LOC -- Mr. Cockran's name is misspelled in your title, and in Bain's as well.

Duke de Talleyrand Prince de Sagan and son (LOC)

There's an interesting story here about The Duc/Prince de Sagan: query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=990CE2DB1530E132A... There's a few details missing, but part of it reads like something from a Victorian occult novel. Apparently, the Duc/Prince also tried to marry Anna Gould: query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9C05E6DE143EE233A...

Here is an interesting article also: query.nytimes.com/mem/archive-free/pdf?res=9804E7DA1139E3... Actually he succeeded in marrying Anna Gould. This appears to be a photo of Helie who was married to Anna Gould (the American heiress from Tarrytown, NY). There are several photos of her and her house are on Flickr LoC collection, try the tags. Article on Anna Gould from Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anna_Gould Anna's 2nd husband was Helie de Talleyrand-Perigord (1859-1937) Prince de Sagan. He is also known as Le Marquis de Talleyrand Perigord, Duc de Sagan. This looks like it is a photo of Helie (age 53 in 1912) holding their son Howard. Sadly, Howard later would shoot himself in his mother's apartment when annoyed with his mother when she told him he could not get married (he was then 19) because she would not give her permission until age 21. (see citation in Wikipedia article). Howard was born in 1909, so he would be around 3 if this photo is from 1912. Howard died at age 19 in 1929. Father Helie died in 1937 at age 78.

Date probable : mai 1911 du fait de la présence conjointe des 4 personnages (mentionnés dans un article du New York Times sur la prise de Juarez). voir ➡ query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9E0CEFDD1E3EE033A...

This photo matches nr 2203-10, may 9th, 1911. You can see Col. Villa wearing the same clothes with the crossed "cananas" on the chest. Behind the group is the same house. Roberto Duarte MD Plastic Surgeon.
