They used to play netball if that's the same thing? The shot is in Sisters of Charity Convent Lady Lane and Spring Garden Alley Waterford

desmondg47 Wondering if you're right about the netball! Might be a faulty description in our catalogue...
  • National Library of Ireland on The Commons said:
Checked in the Irish Newspaper Archive and basketball is reported as a functioning sport in Ireland from 1945 onwards... (Volleyball from 1965, and Netball from 1935.)

Any idea where this was taken? I know this is a bit of work but it may be worth adding each picture to your map. It means people could check the NLI flickr page and see any photos taken in their area! I know its not possible to locate each picture but as you have seen there are people out there that will help, as RICH AM proved in this picture www.flickr.com/photos/nlireland/5997404467/in/photostream

Brian Mulligan I always add photos to the map, but only when sure of the location, and we have gotten so much help from contacts, it's unbelievable. As info comes in, this one'll find its way to the map too... SO FAR: 316 items on Commons stream: www.flickr.com/photos/nlireland/map/ and 135 items on our Mixed Content flickr stream: www.flickr.com/photos/yournlireland/map/

They're baking blahs! There was nothing like fresh blahs for breakfast with melting butter and home-made strawberry jam, yum, yum!!

This is more then likely John Adair's City Bakery at 18 Lady Lane, Waterford. He's listed in P.M. Egan's 1894 directory.
I think the bakery occupied the site of the Library on the corner of Lady Lane & Bakehouse Lane.
The foundation stone of the library was laid in 1903.
