"The Soccer football team from the Koln will play the Royal Australian Naval Team at 2 pm on Wednesday in Lyne Park." 2 pm on Wednesday 10/05/1933. Presumably before the match due to the lack of mud! Read all about the visit - SMH 8/05/1933 p.11 - trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/16966131. There is a Captain Schniewind mentioned; I wonder if he is in this photo?

beachcomber australia Thanks again Beachcomber. I wonder if the German officer middle row, far right could be Schniewind..?

Australian National Maritime Museum on The Commons I thought that too, but the two stripes and a star on his sleeve indicate Oberleutnant (Sublieutenant), according to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_Navy . I imagine there are more in the series to come.

Serendipitous coincidence - just posted by SLNSW -

Dr Rudolf Asmis and Captain Otto Schniewind on board the German cruiser KOLN

I think the gentleman on the left is the German Consul-General, Dr. Rudolf Asmis. See this illustrated article - trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/16924082.
