Hayman Island is the most northerly of the Whitsunday Islands, off the coast of Central Queensland, Australia.[1][2] It is a private island open to the public, most famous for its luxury resort which was built in the 1950s by Ansett Transport Industries. The island is a significant drawing point for tourism in Queensland. The island is small at just an area of 294 hectares (726 acres). In 1947, Ansett Transport Industries acquired the island.[7] Work began on the Royal Hayman Hotel, which was opened in 1950 by Australian Deputy Prime Minister, Arthur Fadden in anticipation of a royal visit to Australia, for which Hayman was granted a Royal Charter. Arrival on Hayman was by Catalina and Sandringham flying boat. In July 1985, a two-year, $300 million project commenced transforming the island into a luxury resort.[8] The works were carried out by Thiess Contractors[9] and in 1987 Hayman was invited to join The Leading Hotels of the World. In May 1998, Hayman Island was sold to the BT Hotel Group.[7] The resort undertook another significant renovation in 2001 and received many of its modern five-star luxury amenities. Golden Age Of Caravans - Vintage Caravans The 1920s & 30s saw the real birth of caravanning for the middle classes. Families had the time and the money (and the car) to take a caravanning holiday. Mostly, people would just set up camp wherever they pleased, but many official caravan sites also popped up during this time. During WW2 however, many caravan manufacturers collapsed. Even in the years following, petrol rations and nation rebuilding pushed caravan holidays to the back of most Australians’ minds. From the beginning of the 1950s however, caravans began their resurgence and with affordable family cars like the FJ Holden, Australia rekindled its love of caravanning. While America was saying hello to the streamlined aircraft aluminum-built Airstream, Australians were cruising around in their Pathfinders and tiny Teardrops. Many caravans from the 1950s-1970s are still around today, lovingly restored by vintage caravan enthusiasts. The rest have been gutted and painted baby blue by hipster coffee and doughnut vendors (nothing wrong with that in my opinion, as long as the doughnuts are delicious). The founders of Dodge are two brothers, John and Horace Dodge, born in Niles, Michigan. After a decade of supplying parts for Ford, the Dodge brothers decided to resign and refused to work with Ford. Whatever their reason might have been, the Dodge brothers still valued quality and durability. So on July 17, 1914, the Dodge brother’s decision to begin selling their vehicles and the Dodge Brothers Company began. A few months later, their very first vehicle, the four-cylinder Dodge Model, was born. With their excellent reputation, the brothers had no problem and sold well. The Dodge brand quickly made its foundation on dependability. In the 1930s, Dodge continued to offer quality, value, and dependability, which was unmatched by any other competitor. Not only was Dodge becoming Internationally successful, but it also helped the US during the war. During World War II, the US depended on Dodge-built parts, aircraft engines, and almost 400,000 trucks during the war. The first post-war Dodges were in high demand by civilians and came out to the market in 1946. In the 1050s, Dodge still stood for dependability, but the design changed the game.
