Harvesting sugar cane in a burned field, vicinity of Guanica, Puerto Rico. Burning the sugar cane gets rid of the dense leaves and makes cutting the unharmed stalks easier (LOC)

That's Called "Zafra" which was done up to 2001 or 2002 at the "ingenio azucarero de Aguadilla" This was just before the Harvest of the canes. This Photos are so nostalgic. The places are all gone. Industrialization and concrete have replaced some of the areas on the pictures. And all the sugar cane factories are all but silenced.
