Rice in a lunch of a sugar worker on a plantation, vicinity of Guanica, Puerto Rico? (LOC)

  • Ricky Flores said:
Jack Delano did work for the FSA and finally settle down in Puerto Rico. I remember hearing stories about him traveling throughout the Caribbean documenting workers for the FSA. His son continued in his footsteps and has a major exhibition on Ellis Island. Guanica is a town in Puerto Rico. Not sure why the title has a question mark at the end.
  • The Library of Congress said:
rigglord, Glad you're enjoying the photos! Because the title does not appear in brackets, it is transcribed from an original source. Generally, a title is transcribed from the original picture, or from a photographer's logbook or negative jacket. If the picture carries no caption a title is devised from another source and displayed in brackets. Devised titles are written by Library staff, or they might come from a published book illustration or a former owner.

Basic seasonings and well used utensils, so its not how much you have but how you use it. I can imagine that what came from this kitchen years ago was fresh, and flavorful.
