Rice and papaya in the lunch of a sugar worker on a plantation, vicinity of Guanica, Puerto Rico (LOC)

I am sure that was a delicious meal, after a backbreaking morning... growing up in Puerto Rico, I had the previleged to enjoy raw sugar cane, this image is nostalgic in a way. Thank you.

Hi, I'm an admin for a group called The frugal kitchen (photo's & recipes), and we'd love to have this added to the group!

i think that is probably the remnants of rice and beans rather than papaya. Rice and beans has historically been *the* staple dish in PR homes and the beans in PR are cooked with either pumpkin and/or potato and that's what it seems to be there in the container on the right.

Al igual que Carlos Alfaro pienso que lo que queda en la friambera son los remanentes del arroz con habichuelas y papas.
