Hi, I'm an admin for a group called Vintage Supermarkets, Grocery & Convenience Stores, and we'd love to have this added to the group!

I worked at this Safeway in 1957 after school and on the weekends.

There WAS a similar Safeway in the 700 blk W Grace BUT this is now Brooks Gray sign shop, 2600 block Hull St. The facade is covered with brown sheet metal but you can still tell it's the same building from the side. There was also a similar Safeway in Carytown where the McDonalds is now. It became Pier 1 in the 70's before being torn down. Pier 1 was cool in those days.

On the right edge lower side the tenement on the corner of Bristo Place and Teviot Place can be seen. The line of Lothian Street is now a roadway. See the link for a 1960s view from where the photograph was taken. The Corner Bar - known in the 60s as the Lothian Bar? is on the right edge of the photo on the link. www.flickr.com/photos/sixtiesedinburgh/6971720848/in/set-...
