We have used the presence or absence of tram horses to date many a photo over the years. Today can we focus a little on the working conditions for tram horses back then. We have seen photos of tramway buildings and power stations, but I do not think we have ever seen a Tramway stables or other infrastructure associated with the horses.

The plates on the wall suggest that this might have been a German restaurant. Germans and German-Americans were much more of a presence in New York before WW1.

Well this isn't much help, but was of interest to me. If you look at the background, you'll see that the statue to William Smith O'Brian isn't there; the statue in the background is Sir John Gray. The Smith O'Brian memorial was erected in 1870, but at the apex of D'Olier St and the quay. It wasn't moved to O'Connell St till 1929. The Gray memorial went up in 1879.
