US Navy ships in Trepassey Bay, Newfoundland there to support the Curtiss NC flying boats' transatlantic attempt. They are from front to back, (still in wartime dazzle camouflage) the tanker USS Hisko (ID-1953), USS Upshur (DD-144) (adjacent to Hisko), USS Aroostook (ID-1256), and USS Prairie (AD-5). A photo of a seemingly non-descript four-stack destroyer USS Buchanan (DD-131). However, USS Buchanan, as the HMS Campbeltown, would go on to be sacrificed as a ship bomb (for lack of a better term) in one of the most daring and important raids of World War II, the Saint-Nazaire Raid of March 1942.
