I really cant believe that I am seeing the photo of my Grandad on the internet, I have had the above photo all my life, and there were in fact two photos taken at the same time only slighty different. My grandfather is the young man in the trench at the back. His helmet has a dent in it which was made by a german bullet. He was in the royal warwickshire regiment I believe it was the 16th battalion. He told me that all the men in the picture were killed, he was the only one who survived. His brother was in the royal artillary, and the both went through the war, with my grandfather joining at fourteen

this photograph is beautiful. the sweet and innocent look of these boys is wonderful. - MarcoMudGarden you're a fool to write that comment about playing pocket pool. his arm is obviously behind him.

Scenes like this are so familiar from films - where they're pretending - this is the real deal! Wonderful!

put this photo in black and white and you will have the classical romantic look of the 1940s,,,,,while in color it reveals how the clothes of those boys were poor, unclean and not in good order,,,,,,, thank you for this realistic view ,,,,,it is sort of curing for my obsession with black and white photos!
