    highly probable that it is a student in charge of them...a town like this would have had a 1 or 2 room school where the older children would be tasked with helping the younger ones learn....most of these kids wouldn't have finished the 7th or 8th grade anyway given that they'd start having to work around the age of 14-15 on the homesteads... as per the shoes....well, this is just coming out of the depression..many folks from that time talk about only getting one pair of shoes a year at christmas and these would be used for shcool and church only..not going to the fair...though they do seem to be in their sunday best even though alot of the material comes from the large flour sacks of the time period....even a pllowcase was used to make one girls outfit.....there are a few store bought items there too.. the ads are because they are at a fair..not at school..

    I wish I knew the relationships between the boys. Their names even. Several of them look like they are from the same family. It's so unusual to see smiling children in early photos. They are adorable.
