Awful! (But thanks for sharing!) Heaps with masses of asbestos fibres in them. I hadn't realised they were so big though - how on earth did they manage to bury or dispose of them?

I'm an 'outsider' and live in Seaton Delaval, Northumberland. I've travelled through Washington on many occasions via public transport (Wreckenton to Sunderlaand) and can still vision the scenes you've posted onto these pages. Washington's a fascinating mix of old mining villages with their unique layouts, joined together by newer housing and open green space.
