  St James Anglican Cathedral, constructed in English Bond red brick with dressed sandstone trim, is located on a terraced site on Melton Hill between the Townsville central business district and Cleveland Bay.[1] The Gothic Revival building was built in two stages, both of which are quite obvious, both in materials and design. The main roof is clad with slate and has a small spire over the nave and transept junction. The lower roof to the side aisles and ambulatory has ribbed metal cladding. The chancel is surrounded by an ambulatory which contains the vestry and a Seaman's Chapel. The north transept has a large organ loft inserted and the roof features exposed trusses with a diagonally boarded ceiling. Cast iron columns with clerestory above separate the side aisles from the nave. The clerestory of the original section of the building contains stained glass windows.   On 9 March 1954, Queen Elizabeth II made history by being the first-ever reigning monarch to set foot in Queensland. With her husband Prince Phillip in tow, the then 27-year-old monarch arrived in Brisbane with much fanfare and excitement. The royal itinerary included regional visits to Bundaberg, Toowoomba, Townsville, Cairns, Mackay, and surrounding destinations, and several days in Brisbane. The Queen and Prince Phillip stayed at Government House in inner-west Paddington with Queensland Governor Sir John Lavarack and his wife.   Jack Brown was a formidable player in his day and also a great contributor to golf in Queensland. "Runner-up in -the B Grade was John Brown. John has been featured in golf notes a few times now and I think I mentioned in these notes from a week or so ago that this chap had real golf style and practice will make a stylish golfer of him."
