The photographer's perspective is from the north side of the intersection on Madison Avenue, looking toward 42nd St. to the southwest and Cox as he approaches the intersection. The Union Carbon and Carbide Building Union Carbide and Carbon Building (built in 1913, demolished in 2001) serves as the backdrop for the scene.
