Teacups, teacups everywhere and not a beer in sight!

Peter Denton Absolutely! Would imagine it was a "dry" event, unless the tea was "fortified"... :)

Sir David felt he was special, as can be seen his his using 6 buttons on his coat instead of the normal 8, and the tilt of his cap. Much had been written about him, a charismatic and controversial man with some well documented personal failings and prejudices and some critical mistakes during the Battles of Dogger Bank and Jutland.

a portrait of Admiral David Beatty. Quite popular and with distinct flare, he was also impetuous and over-eager.He made some critical mistakes at the battle of Jutland that may have kept the British from routing the Germans.

www.wikigallery.org/wiki/painting_201592/Philip-Alexius-D... seems to show the original painting (and offers to supply a copy). www.bridgemanart.com/image.aspx?img=1583e991-9adf-4162-a6... suggests 1911 as the date for the painting. But there were clearly prints made too. See www.npg.org.uk/collections/search/portraitLarge/mw122881/... I think the Bain photo may have been of a print rather than the oil painting.
