Pyrmont Bridge opened in 1902, replacing an earlier one - www.flickr.com/photos/powerhouse_museum/2362655049/ . This is a pair with www.flickr.com/photos/powerhouse_museum/2362702929/ . The other shows the bridge open. But the puzzle is how did the photographer (Kerry) get so high? In a balloon?

^he climbed the 200ft chimney of the pyrmont power station. The first of the 3 stacks was erected in 1904. 2 more stacks (1908 & 1913) were even taller at 215ft high)

Thanks uminarampart - I applaud your extensive knowledge of tall buildings around Sydney. How did you get interested in that, and where do you find your information? Presumably you cannot climb a chimney stack when it is belching smoke, so this photo must be 1904 (whilst Anthony Hordern's New Palace Emporium was being built). I wonder if the photographer was Melvin Vaniman who was climbing all around Sydney in 1903-4. See www.flickr.com/photos/state-records-nsw/4350240764/ . Or maybe a Kerry studios staffer who was trying to compete?
