What happened to the Stockrington?
It apparently disappeared - see 1927 Trove article : trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/16381668
but - not quite.
It reappeared after a 3-day storm: trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/16386813
It lived to be grounded another day. See 1956 photo of the 'Pelaw Main' and 'Stockrington', both J & A Brown colliers, from Uni of Newcastle Cultural Collections:

Andy Brill Interesting... There is a 1947 article saying it (or another STOCKRINGTON?) has been sold to a Chinese owner. I will have to do some more digging!

Andy Brill said:
I wonder whether the sale proceeded, as the ship in the 1956 photo appears to be identical to the ship in your photo above. Either way, The Flotilla Australia register does not list a 'Stockrington', under J & A Brown ships. J & A Brown operated the Stockrington Colliery at Newcastle.

Andy Brill More records, a little more confusing. The Miramar Ship Index lists STOCKRINGTON as sold by J&A Brown to a new owner in 1922 with the name changed to MAINDY COTTAGE. In 1948 it is listed as MOW LIN and belonging to Hung Ziang Shing, & that is the last entry... mysterious!
