Certainly pre-1891 - the Manly Jetty seen in the other photo was built in 1891.

pellethepoet beachcomber australia Thank you for the image and pointing out those clues. We initially dated this as c 1890 based on the women's clothing, however, the State Records NSW photograph provides a better reference point. Thanks again!

Before the rebuild (1896). See www.flickr.com/photos/state-records-nsw/3794327782/ This 1887 (see note) James Barnet building was much better proportioned than what is there now. (imho!)
