As a Glaswegian living in Ireland I'd love to know why there was a need for a passenger service from Waterford to Glasgow. Was it trade or emigration (quite a circuitous way to get to the UK though)

Before the railways were built that would have been the fastest way to get from the south coast to Scotland. I wouldn't have thought they'd have got much custom in 1910 though.

One thing Glassgow would have had in 1910 that perhaps Waterford and the surrounding areas wouldn't have had was jobs !! And as derangedlemur said the sea route would have been the fastest way for the men to get there and back to their families.

Cuddly Nutter Mind you, this bunch are all kitted out in tweeds as if they're going shooting or golfing (or both). It doesn't look like either working in the mill clothes or sunday best.

I see the loopline bridge, they are on the quays at the Custom House in Dublin. Streetview of the steps. The date range is off - the Clarecastle was built in 1914 and bought by Gunness in 1915 : Clyde ships page. Date is before 1953 when the Clarecastle was sold again.

All the boys are wearing shoes, which also suggests a later date range. I think some of them are fishing with bits of string. They have a big empty tin can to put their catch into.

It looks like the boys are Crabbing. A ball of string or a sock is the bait on a line.
