Originally known as the Pierpont Morgan Library, this institution is located at Madison Avenue and 36th Street in New York City. The Palladian style building was designed by architect Charles Follen McKim, and completed in 1906. The original entrance, as depicted in this photo, was at 33 E. 36th Street. The Morgan was made a public institution by the founder's son, J.P. Morgan Jr., in 1924. The building was declared a national historic landmark and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1966. The Morgan Library & Museum web site.
