Becker Jury (LOC)

Presumably the trial of Charles Becker, which took place in 1912. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Becker Charles Becker (July 26, 1870 – July 30, 1915) was a New York City police officer in the 1890s-1910s and who was tried, convicted and executed for ordering the murder of a Manhattan gambler, Herman Rosenthal in the Becker-Rosenthal trial. Becker was the first American police officer to receive the death penalty for murder. The scandal that surrounded his arrest, conviction, and execution was one of the most important in Progressive Era New York in the 1890s to 1910s.

One of the old Tombs prisons in NYC had a Bridge of Sighs, like in Venice: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tombs_Prison Becker was NYPD police officer accused of ordering hit on underworld figure. Famous case of 1912, there are quite a few photos on LOC-Flickr collection related to the Becker case.

Below see link to Wikipedia article about Gyp, the Blood also known as Harry Horowitz. Horowitz and his gang were convicted and executed, apparently they were believed to be acting at behest of NYPD Police Lieutenant Charles Becker, and there are photos in this Flickr series of Becker going to Sing Sing also. (see tag for Becker). They killed Herman Rosenthal. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gyp_the_Blood
