One lumbering steer seeking to escape pursuit turned into Fifth Avenue at Fifty-ninth Street and, dodging bullets which were fired at it by pursuing policemen, caused such uproar that Fifth Avenue thought that either a gangsters' battle was in progress or a Wild West show had lost its bearings.

The machine on the picture is a design of Giuseppe Bellanca , actually his third design - a parasol wing construction - dating from the fall 1911, built in New York. The machine was used as a trainer, that is the trainee was in the plane actually flying and the instructor was on the ground (!), as the machine was a single seat one. A pupil became later very famous, Fiorella H. LaGuardia in later times the mayor of New York. Reference: Spencer, Jay P. 1982. Bellanca C.F. The emergence of the cabin monoplane in the United States. On February 1, 1914, Captain John McClintock was appointed First Deputy Police Commissioner of New York City. He resigned ten months later; a New York Times story on December 8, 1914, hinted that the resignation had been inspired by a desire to accept a police post in the newly-created (and USA-administered) Panama Canal Zone.
